That’s frustrating to hear. If common over the counter products cause positive tests then it is not an effective test. Why are we paying for this agency to do these inaccurate screenings?

Comment on TSA PreCheck Now Includes Random Screening of Electronic Devices by Danny boy https://www.travelcodex.com/random-explosive-tests-tsa-precheck/#comment-554113 Thu, 25 May 2023 02:30:10 +0000 https://www.travelcodex.com/?p=46687#comment-554113 I had to go to a medical conference and had a layover in San Diego. I got the “random screen beep” twice in San Diego within 1 hour. I had to go through multiple times because I went to the food court and that airport is confusing because it separates every terminal with security. So, if you leave your tiny overcrowded gate you have to go through security to get to another terminal and back into yours because the terminals are not connected to each other.
The first time I got the “beep”, they asked if my bag was the one they pulled aside and I said “No none of these bags are mine”. They then asked for my phone which I did not have because my gf already had walked off with it. I told them that my gf had my bag, phone and wallet and had already gone through, but that wasn’t good enough for them. I had to wait for her to come back to check on why it was taking so long and when she did come back they asked her for my cellphone so they could swab it before they released me. They wouldn’t even explain what they were looking for or why and they get so irritated that people even ask. Needing to scan an electronic device that already passed security and wasn’t even on me just does not make any logical sense.
The second time I went through one of their security lines, the alarm didn’t beep but they made me go back through because they said my hands were together. So, when I went back through at their request “random beep” went off again. They again pulled me aside and said they need to frisk me. I was frustrated at this point because I had already been through that security line 2 or 3 times. The security guy comes out and I said “No, I don’t want to be frisked you guys made me go back through for no reason until it beeped”. The security guard then puffs his chest and says ” you don’t get to say no to me this is my job”. That triggered me so I told him he needs to check his attitude, which hurt his ego, and he started arguing with me. He eventually shut up and did his “frisk”. He literally just rubbed his hands across my crotch and no where else. Then he stepped out of my way and waved me off. It took everything for me to not go after that agent hiding behind his blue collared shirt. What’s the point of precheck if they are still just going to harass you and treat you like crap?
I am currently working in healthcare but I am also a veteran. It feels like these TSA agents are mindless drones. It drives me crazy when they say “it’s orders” or “for my safety”. It is not for my safety if my safety was not at risk. The only time I feel in danger is when these little untrained TSA bullies harass innocent travelers and make them feel helpless. They hide behind the uniform and “federal agent” status thinking they are untouchable. It’s infuriating.

Thanks! I don’t have any United flights on the books but if something cheap comes along, I won’t say no.

Never made it in; eventually I had to catch my flight. American Express Platinum customer service could not help. The lounge appears poorly managed. No other lounge options for American Express Platinum members unless you’re flying Delta (which I was not). Amazing that AMEX does not have it’s act together for what should be a signature lounge at one of the world’s largest airports.

Yes, I agree. Is the writer Asian? If yes, he should read up or know a little about Japanese style cuisine. Nothing bad or odd, its typical.
P/S – seafood Mexican rice looks interesting, I’d try it. At least it’s not chicken breast & potatoes.

Love this airline.

Comment on How Long Does It Take to Change Terminals at LAX? by James Dozer https://www.travelcodex.com/long-take-change-terminals-lax/#comment-553834 Fri, 19 May 2023 08:58:34 +0000 https://www.travelcodex.com/?p=48724#comment-553834 In reply to Emily.

You will do customs/immigration in Canada. Assuming your trip was all booked on one ticket, your bags should be checked all the way through. If that’s the case, you do not need to clear security again. You can just follow the signs to T7 and go straight to your next flight.

Bid for Business Class on Copa 737 Max 9 by Phil https://www.travelcodex.com/bid-business-class-copa-737-max-9/#comment-553788 Thu, 18 May 2023 22:16:31 +0000 https://www.travelcodex.com/?p=489907#comment-553788 The new terminal at PTY is nice but amazing how poor the food choices are there. Hoping they open some more. We had a 5+ hour layover at Xmas and found the only restaurant with decent seating in the entire airport seemed to be an Olive Garden in Terminal 1.

Board Terminal 7 (United airlines) 22:43 (1 hour 44 minutes). Does this work? I would have to do customs but do I have to redo secuirty as well?

I am supposed to meet them at the exit (TBIT) and assist them to transit. Do they still need to follow the “transit passengers” sign? if so, where can they meet them?

I think it’s all depending on what flight you’re on. It’s too small for the a380 but great for the 777

I also found the lounge manager to be welcoming and proactive. Agree that he is very knowledgeable about wine. I take the earlier flight and avoid the A380. Lounge is much less crowded (if it is not delayed) and it boards directly from the lounge.
